The lovely village of Killin lies in the heart of Scotland; the majestic Ben Lawers watching over her like a knight guarding his castle. If you listen carefully, you will hear The Falls of Dochart rushing over the black rocks telling the secrets of the Clan McNab whose burial ground lies on her island and is sheltered by the golden aura that surrounds her. Steeped in history, her resilient people have weathered The Highland Clearances and retold the stories of Fingal and his stone, Finlarig Castle, the ferocious Campbell Clan and all of the superstitions that make them who they are today with their colorful language and deep rooted traditions.
Born and raised in this historic village are William and Mary who grew up together and fell in love; their fathers do not see eye to eye and William must decide if he wants to become a hated tacksman like his father or find his own lot in life. Then, a tragic accident changes the lives of these two young people; but will it bring them closer together or tear them farther apart?
How many deep dark secrets is William keeping from those who love him? is he the easy going, good looking lad everyone assumed him to be or a man of mystery?
A large inheritance brings financial security to many of the Killin residents but does it make the heiress happy or will she spend her life looking at the past; unable to see what's waiting for her in the future?
Does the lonely little nurse with the big heart finally find real love or will she be betrayed by the bonnie lass with the wild black hair and black eyes?
How long will the sensuous teacher with the intense dark eyes wait in the wings to finally conquer the woman he loves before he decides to give up and try to find someone else?
Can a young man return home again and be forgiven or must he spend the rest of his life on the outskirts yearing to see his beloved Killin again?

Good story - somewhat slow to start, but once all players were established it took off and was very hard to put down.
This book was very good , descriptive, made my heart soar. Made me feel like I was in The Highlands. Moving.
I just finished reading this and absolutely loved the story. The author did a great job of keeping you guessing and spinging surprises on the reader. The characters are great and seem very real. The descriptions of the countryside are wonderful and the traditions are presented very well. I have seen the mountain she describes and it is just like she says it is. You will not want to put this book down until you are finished.
Wow, where do I start? I received this book for free for an honest review. I have to say overall I thought this was a good book. I cried though some parts, which I've never done before. This was an emotional roller coaster ride that kept me captivated until the end. All of the characters were well developed. The families and friends brought a true sense of community to life in those days. I would recommend this book to others, the only reason I gave it 4 instead 5 stars is because there wer some parts that seemed to drag on, and spelling errors were found. Good read overall!
The Road Home is a book that you should have in your library. Written by first time author Charlotte Buelow, it is a smooth read that will have you entertained. As a new author Charlotte has a style that is descriptive, entertaining and easy to read. She takes her time with details and allows the reader to get a clear understanding of what is going on. The author has well developed characters offering a variety of views and opinions. Some good decisions, some not so good. It also have a well developed story to balance it out. I also wanted to add that I like the cover. It has a clean and refreshing look. It is a clean and refreshing book. Congratulations to Ms. Buelow and welcome to the world of literature.
In the heart of Scotland lays the little Village of Killin. This is where Mary and William have grown up and fallen in love. But their father's just don't get along since William's father was named the tacksman. Now William must decide if he will follow in his fathers footsteps and be the hated rent collecting tacksman or do something he loves with his life. The only problem with his plan is he would have to leave Mary for 2 years to learn his trade. Mary hated the thought
of him leaving but understands his need to change his life's path. When a terrible accident happens it changes the life of these young sweethearts. How William handles these changes could very well change things in the most dramatic way.

Review Ok, I expected this book to be your run of the mill, same old romance. Good just similar. I was wrong. The author changed things up on me fairly early in the book. This story made me smile, made me sad, made me cringe and even made me want to choke a character or two at times. It has many twists and turns that kept me interested in where the author would lead me next. I really enjoyed this book, even if I wanted to jump through my and smack William in the head a couple times. Kuddo's to Charlotte Buelow for giving me an original story with love, drama, heartbreak, angst and healing.

Excellent Book

Could not put this book down. It was easy to read and I would highly recommend it. Great gift idea.
I purchased this book for both my mom and my cousin. Both of them enjoyed it thoroughly and went on to purchase additional copies to give as gifts. My mom said she couldn't put it down.
